Creating User Accounts

In this tutorial, you'll create three "native" users, that is, users whose accounts are managed solely within RCX.

Before you begin

Complete the Creating Divisions tutorial so you can select a division for the new user.

  1. Expand Settings in the navigation pane.
  2. Click Users.

User 1: the Viewer

  1. Click + Add User. The User dialog box opens.
  2. Fill in the fields as described:

    Field Name Property Description
    Login Name viewer1
Email Address Type your email address or subaddress*
    Possible Divisions AcmePetCS
    Default Division AcmePetCS
    Active Yes
    Division Check Enabled Yes

*Most email providers let you create an email subaddress by appending your existing email address with a plus and adding additional characters. For example, jdoe@example.com also receives email sent to jdoe+viewer1@example.com. Each user must have a unique email address within RCX, so the email subaddress can be useful for this exercise.

  3. Click OK.

  4. Check your email inbox. An email sent from info@reactorcx.com contains a link to reset your password. If you don't see it, check your junk folder.
  5. Click the link to open the Reset Password view.
  6. Type the New Password. It must be at least six characters long.
  7. Type the new password again in the Repeat New Password text box. It must match the New Password.
  8. Click Reset. You can now sign in using this username and password.

User 2: the Editor

  1. Click + Add User. The User dialog box opens.
  2. Fill in the fields as described:

    Field Name Value
    Login Name editor1
Email Address Type your email address or subaddress*
    Possible Divisions AcmePetCS and AcmePetIT
    Default Division AcmePetCS
    Active Yes
    Division Check Enabled Yes

*An example subaddress might be jdoe+editor1@example.com. Each user must have a unique email address within RCX, so the email subaddress can be useful for this exercise.

  3. Click OK.

  4. Check your email inbox. An email from info@reactorcx.com contains a link to reset your password.

User 3: the System Admin

  1. Click + Add User. The User dialog box opens.
  2. Fill in the fields as described:

  4. Check your email inbox. An email from info@reactorcx.com contains a link to reset your password.

At this point, you have three users, but they can't log in yet because they have no roles.
